Engine stalls when letting off of the gas peddle.

I have a 2003 X Type with the 2.5 engine all wheel drive and auto trans.

Sometimes, not always when slowing down to make a turn or coming to a stop at a stop sign or light the engine dies. The engine starts right back up. Sometimes and again not always once the engine dies and is restarted it might die again several times but only while driving at low speeds like in a parking lot having to make turns and slowing down. Always after dying the engine starts right back up. But this does not always happen and sometimes it happens a lot. While driving the car on the open road the engine has never died. This stalling condition has only happened after the engine has warmed up.

If I depress the gas peddle too much too quickly the engine misses. But I have not experienced any missing while driving normal.

I was not able to find a lot of information on the web that covers this. Most information is pretty generic, I've read it could be a fuel filter, fuel pump, O2 sensor low trans fluid and a slew of other problems.

I had the MAF throw a code and I replaced the MAF. When the MAF was bad the engine would idle very roughly when cold. Once I replaced the MAF that problem went away.

HAs anyone else experienced this problem and if so what did you do to resolve it?

May well be an air leak - look at the fuel trims to find out. Lots of threads you can read...

clean the throttle body and check for vacuum leaks in the intake. things like imt valve orings, brake booster line and intake gaskets upper and lower are the big culprits. when the throttle gets dirty it eliminates the mechanical air gap between the tb blade and bore. these are the first things to check

As above, check the "big 3" for vacuum leaks. Get a reader and pull what codes are present and do a SEARCH here on fixes. Most likely causes =
1. Vacuum leak(s)
2. Throttle body as per Brutal's post
3. Fuel filter
4. Fuel pressure sensor
5. Failing fuel pump
