Is this a fair quote?
 

My dealership is in a wealthy area so I'm not sure if this is a normal quote or high because of the location. Any opinions? If this is high I can always go visit my familiy near a smaller city in a more rural area and get the repairs done there. Thoughts on if this is average, high etc?

Mick: Has the mechanic ruled out the more common causes of vacuum leaks and a weak batteries (with cheaper solutions)? Do a few quick searches, and you'll see many posts on these topics, because they're common in our X-Types.

Common vacuum leaks: IMT valve O-rings, PCV hose, check valve in brake boost line

Common causes of a weak battery (other than the obvious weak battery): Corrosion between the positive and negative battery posts and battery cables, poor ground connection between the negative cable and the chassis (it's beneath the battery box).

Get comfortable the mechanic has ruled out easier, less expensive repairs first. Or ask another mechanic's opinion.

Have your codes read. Pep Boys will do it for free,
Write them down and post them here.
Without the codes it is all pie in the sky guesses.

And, no, even if you need new gaskets and battery cables, the quotes are outlandish!

How comfortable are you at turning a wrench?
you could probably do all the work yourself for about $200 including new spark plugs.

When you see what is all involved, you are going to drop a brick in your pants with that quote. For $70, we can also do the IMT valves. If you are interested, let me know. Your front brake pads and brake rotors are at minimum = $651.94

Finally, your front stabilizer bushings are worn and the technician suggests replacement = $688.85

Yes I am comfortable using a wrench and will check out the videos but I am more of a girlie girl and don't want to tinker around with this beast. The car has been cursed for me from day 1. If you go back to the intro page you'll see my story "new member in DC" :)

I got a full set of rotors and pads off ebay 2 years ago for under $160
still going strong.

As for the bushings I got those from Rock auto for around $20 each.
even replaced Both the links for $40

I also read your other post. Chris will look after you and I highly recommend a HID upgrade for your lighting issue .

Well I managed to buy all of the gasket parts, battery cables, and brake parts. The guy at Auto Zone asked if I was going to install it and I just laughed.

Mick/Kim, it was fun meeting you today. Too bad we couldn't get everything fixed, but we did get a lot done (new intake gaskets, plug change out, new front rotors/pads). Figured out a lot of other things too. If you need more help, let me know. I am sure we can get things sorted out and get everything back to 100%

When you buy any Jag that's out of warranty, #1, find a local Jag guy. I use a shop here, All Jaguar, that sources rebuilt parts, but have never done anything short of great work.
Also don't be scared to do your own fixes. I rebuilt all four corners with eBay sorced rotors and pads. I don't think I spent more that $200.
Avoid dealers.
