I thought I would present them in the best possible light before storing them under my house for two years and trying to forget about them.

You know Jeremy there still are a few of us that drool over those Melbournes...but, you are correct, they would look better on a stock height X-Type. The other wheels you've shown us do look better with your lowered stance. Thanks for another set of great pics.

I just wonder how you got them inside the fenders like that. I have 19" 235/35 and they are the maximum size before they start rubbing. I would like to drop the car a little bit, like 1.5" or so but I can already see my tires destroying the fenders and vice versa.
BTW...I'm also in the predicament of putting back on the original OEM rims for some snow traction. I don't wanna be like the BMW I saw the other day trying to go up a small hill and slipping without moving an inch for like 5 minutes. Here's my baby... Attachment 174525 Attachment 174526 |

AH! Air bags, of course! I noticed the problem with going big and deep into the wheel well is to redo the suspension components. If I put any bigger than 19" 235/35 it would definitely rub the tires either inside the wheel well or the springs. (I don't wanna go to 25 series tires to protect the rims)

^ I think you will only rub right on the outer back edges of the front bumper (where it meets the fender) if you go too low. Your wheels, offsets and the 235/35/19 size are relatively tame, but if you go lower than 2" and don't want to rub at parking lot speeds, then don't go any bigger.

Since these new ones are OEM and 18", I'll sell the car (in 2 years) with the Cygnus XF wheels.
The BBS Melbournes are for sale without tires for $650+ship to the first taker. All wheels are straight with no curb rash, but paint is in 7/10 condition. If you want these for concours showing, I would repaint them, otherwise they look great. PM me if interested. |
