Front wheel rotation
 

Hello you knowledgable people,
I recently changed all the discs and pads on my 2003 2.5 manual x type, I noticed that even with the calliper removed, it was hard to turn both the front wheels by hand.
Is this normal on a AWD, or do I have bearing/ transmission problems. I also notice that the car doesn't roll when out of gear, in neutral, in other words, if I stop In neutral it will stop suddenly and not rollto a stop.
Anyone any comments?

Possible hung rear caliper.

Don't think that's the case bud, its the front, I'm gonna say maybe CV or bearing.

But the drivetrain is connected all through the Transfer case..so if the rear wheels or one of them is bound up, it will affect and put a drag on the front wheels too...Could be one of the rear or both Parking brakes are hung up.

If it were the CV joints or wheel bearing...you'd hear a clicking noise of the CV's and or squeal of the bearings..but it wouldn't bind up so bad that it would almost brake the car from a coast.

DPK thanks for your input, I have jacked the car up removed the road wheel and tried to rotate the wheel by hand and it is very difficult to do, is this something to do with the other three wheels being still on the ground? I am not sufficiently knowledgable in awd systems.

YES!..I was under assumption you had all four off the ground

Hi, drive around for a mile or three, stop, and feel the centre of each wheel, are they all about the same temperature ? if one is noticeably hotter you've found the culprit. It could be that a flexi hose has collapsed inside and isn't allowing the pressure to release. Good luck, Martin.

Yes, I believe that is the problem, the brake calliper on the driver side, the piston is not fully retracting, and holding the pads on, I have ordered a new one.
