Front Wiper Motor Question...
 

All,

Esoteric question but hopefully someone on the forum may know the answer....

My front wipers stopped working... can hear the motor turning and can see the shaft spinning, seems like the nut that attaches it to the linkage assembly came loose and is no longer there.

Does anyone know the size and thread pitch of the nut? I don't have collection of spare metric nuts to try out so my only choice is to drive it to a hardware store and disassemble it there and try random nuts until I find the one that fits.

Quick update and a further question...
 

All... found the correct 13mm nut, installed and tightened it and the wipers now work.

Only problem is that they no longer go all the way down to the "off" position when you turn the wipers off and instead come to a stop before then....

Can anyone share how to adjust this? Searched the forum but couldn't find a procedure to do it.....

With the motor off and the wipers parked, I would loosen the retaining nut and the move the mechanism off the shaft and move the wipers to the proper position. I would then reinstall the mechanism and nut and give it a test,

Most likely the motor is returning to the parked position and the arm driver is slightly out of position.

Very simple: with the wipers parked, remove the nut, remove the wiper arm, reposition the arm lower on the spindle, tighten the nut, done!

For clarification, I need to;
- remove the wiper arms and the cowl covering the wiper linkage
- loosen the nut connecting the linkage to the wiper motor
- re-position the linkage to reflect the correct "parked" position at the bottom of the windscreen
- re- tighten the nut attaching the linkage to the wiper motor
- test and reassemble...

No! It is far more simple: you only need to reposition the wiper arms themselves, no need to remove the cowl or deal with the linkage.
Just pull back the plastic cover at the end of the wiper arm, remove the nut, remove the arm. (Gentle but strong persuasion in this) - and reposition the arm on the spindle so that it parks lower on the screen. Replace the nut, flip the plastic cover closed, and you are done.
