Sorry, Okay last one for now:D I religiously dump a can of this into a full tank every 5000 miles..It has been expressed to me by several Jag techs, that this is like a shot of penicillin for the engine..cleans everything within the combustion chambers and fuel system. I have had limited success with fuel additives. But I have read about some that help remove deposits from the back side of intake valves. I think that some areas of the US have fuel that is more prone to build up of deposits in the combustion chamber.
I ran a can of injector cleaner a couple of times a year into my M5 and I always felt it was a good thing. THen 2 years ago I pulled all the fuel injectors out of the engine, and ran them through an untrasonic cleaner, then re-installed them. This was the single biggest improvement to the running of an engine that I have ever done. The car gained smoothness and ran much better from that cleaning. I dont know how much the additives do for the fuel that we get here in Ontario/Quebec. |

Redex always gets a decent name, I've used it myself a few times. There was one product from the States that I did like and was impressed with called Duralube. At least that was the brand name and it had various lubes n oils etc etc..........I did purchase a kit some years ago and fed it into my wifes Escort at the time. It really seemed to make some difference, more responsive and slightly better mpg to boot, or so it seemed anyway. Jim |

Anyone hear about Ferox fuel tablets? Supposed to give gains of like 10 whp. But that sounds like BS. But they have been around for like 20 years and claim to have dyno tested results.

I feel responsible,,,, I have been foul mouthed lately, and maybe Dennis thought it was OK... anyway sometimes you have to swear to make a f'ing point.

Hmmm, never heard of that product.
I use Techron every now and then. I like to inject it with a syringe into the fuel filter going towards to fuel rail so the injectors get a rather concentrated amount, rather than washing it down in the fuel tank and worrying about evaporation. As per Jag's manual, it says not to use additives, dunno why when petrol companies add their own additives in the mixture. I just advise my mother to fill up at Mobil/BP gas stations. |

Yeah I read that too..ButI think that is talking about every other OTC stuff that will not be any good for whatever reason..But this 44K was actually given to me (under the counter)by my Jag Techs at the dealer..As they use it in every Jag that comes in for service.

Hmm, Interesting Idea..I've never done it to any of my cars..Is there much need for this?..I don't know...But I would think that if you kept a clean air filter (I use K&N) that the intake should stay relatively clean, I would think..Like I said, I don't know for sure..worth looking into..

Just pointing out. I've done it on my cars; Contours (done at least 3/4 times), father's Taurus (done once). You'd be amazed how much soot gets built up.
I usually do it when I do a tune-up since I have to remove the UIM to get to the plugs/wires. There are several different versions of doing this w/o removing the manifolds a la Seafoam in the vacuum ports. Seems a bit more risky to me, and I've never done it w/o removing. People have done dyno results for the Contour (2.5L Duratec), and have shown marginal gains (i.e. restoring power), while getting a smoother running engine/idle, etc. I've felt my cars idling better, but again this can just be psychological. I have documented better gas mileage as a result of this. I did an extensive three month post-cleaning analysis using the same gas station, driving habits, etc., and saw on average 4/5mpg increase. Now, part of it could be due to changing out the plugs, but I was unable to get a baseline since I never measured my gas mileage w/just the plugs and no cleaning. Just throwing it out there, perhaps someone has done it, maybe Bo may have ventured it? |
