Help! Fuel filling very slowly! Something stuck in fuel filler pipe?

Have a look at the video i have made going down the fuel filler tube. This is a 05 jag xtype. It takes forever to put a few gallons in the tank with it constantly backing up the pipe.

At the time of my reply, this has had 46 Views but no replies posted.

I've moved it from General Tech Help to the X-Type section so the guys with the same model as you have will definitely see it and might have suggestions to help.

I don't have a clue either,
Is it some kind of LPG Do it Yourself adaption?
Good Luck anyway, Regards, Stu :)

filler pipe pluged

Upstate imports fixed it 315-303-7309 for me after the Jag dealer tied my car up for a month and cost me a gas tank and fuel pump that I did not need. Now Upstate does all my repairs

Dr Killer, the anti-siphon valve is the silver disk right there at the top of the filler tube. As for the blockage that you point out, not sure what to say about that.

Thanks for moving

Thanks for moving the post, I was thinking about putting it int he xtype section to start but thought it may relate to different cars also.
I have bought another filler pipe ($40) looks about new. When that arrives I'm going to scope that and see and post back a new video. May end up having to switch out the pipes but we will see.

Other models don't have a filler pipe anything like as long or as awkwardly shaped as the X-Type (item 10):

It'll be interesting to hear what is stuck in there.

It looks like one of those small solo cups. Has a number 3 on the bottom.

I'd love to hear the outcome of this..... My Jan04 53 plate 2.5 Xtype Estate has the same issue, takes me about 15-20 minutes to fill the damn thing from empty..... driving me nuts....

had it since i bought the car 3 months ago.... the thing came with a full tank of gas..... i wonder why...... :(

grrrrr

Idris YDraig Sep 12, 2013 08:15 AM

(my current theory is that it may be some kind of pressure equalisation problem...... if there's a blocked vent of some sort on the tank, then the air can only come oput the same way the fuel is going in, thus having to fill it slowly works fine, as the air coming out and fuel going in can pass each other without backing up, but when you try and fill at full rate, the fuel backs up on the air coming out on one of the tortuous turns of the filler pipe..... )

update

Just to update this post. The new pipe came in and here is the video scoping it
What an 05 jaguar fuel filler pipe should look like inside - YouTube

As you can see there should be NOTHING inside the jaguar xtype fuel filler pipe. This type seems to have a separate air line not along with the filling pipe.

I will post another reply when i have time to get the pipe off the car and maybe find out what is stuck in the pipe by pushing it out from the other side.

Someone at some point has put something down this pipe! Pretty annoying just lucky i can still fill it.. just about.

Given the shape of the pipe, you'll probably have to cut the old one above and below the blockage to be able to get to it.

I'll be interested to see what it is.

It look to me to be metal so i'm not sure about the solo cup idea but maybe just looks that way on the camera. We will see soon enough.
Trying to get the pipe off with out dropping the tank is proving to be a challenge!

Finally had time to get this thing out the pipe. Its one of these but in clear plastic. It says on the top caplugs which is the company and RC-12 which is their code for the size i think. It looking like metal on the bottom was just an illusion

It was in the car when i got it so don't know what annoying person put it in there! Whoever it was is most annoying though!

Mazda Did The Same Thing

I had a 2002 Mazda Protege5 and it did the same thing. It corrected itself. Good luck!
