Default Hi everyone, not a jag owner, trying to help my neighbor out w/04 X

Neighbors 04 X ds headlight burnt & melted to socket. Bought new one only 1 terminal. Says he went to forum & read to twist wires together & plug in,still not working. I thought 1 wire hot plugs to center & only & 2nd wire is grnd. So now I'm assuming now he has no grnd. If correct, what do I do? Take other wire & ground to light housing? Id reall appreciate any help. Thanks

Copied from your Intro.

The guys here will be able to advise on the headlight electrics.

redeye63, if you look, you should have a colored wire and a black wire going to the headlight bulb. If you have a multimeter, check to see that you have 12 VDC on the colored wire when the headlights should be on. If you have 12 VDC there, then you have confirmed that the problem is a ground (black) wire issue. If you don't have 12 VDC, you need to check the fuses for the headlight. Of note, you have a common fuse that feeds the relay and then downstream of the relay you have a fuse for each headlight assembly. Since the other side is working, you need to be looking at the downstream side. Just be careful when someone tells you to check fuse XX since in early 2004, Jaguar did a major revision to the fuse numbering and they may be telling you the wrong fuse to check. So, the question comes down to whether it was made on/before March 2004 or after March 2004. The build date is located on the sticker in the driver's door. I can tell you the correct fuse number if you tell me when the car was built and if you have a left or right hand drive vehicle.

redeye63, if you look at the old socket, one wire runs up the middle to the bulb (mine was yellow) the other, the ground ran up the side (mine was brown). On the bulb housing, where the wire clip that holds the bulb in place goes, there is a male spade connector that can/should be used for your ground.
