High Idle

Hello all!

I have noticed that my 05 seems to idle differently than my RIP 04. Every time I start the car-even if it's after a quick stop at tStarbucks on 100 degree day-after having driven for 1/2 hour previously--the car starts at high idle- like it was cold - and then settles back to "normal" idle. I don't know if I need to start with the coolant temp sensor, the MAF, or the TPS. Or if this is normal- opinions appreciated

So when I hook up the OBD2 machine the idle fluctuates quite a bit. Fully warmed car goes between 650-698 on D. ....on P car goes 700-725.....the OBD2 gives the temperature as a constant 198, so I guess it's not the TPS. It must be an air leak somewhere

and no codes at all

Spike, before you get into things too far, give your throttlebody a good cleaning. Especiailly make sure that the little hole in the throttlebody is clear. It can possibly be simply that your idle air control valve is sticking slightly and that is causing your idle to wander a little bit and result in it being too high.
