Default I built my "cold" air intake finally...at least look haha

I know, another cold air intake thread... but I figured you might like to see what I built. I'm not saying its the best setup, but I am pleased with it. As with most of my mods, its not simple haha.

Battery has been moved to the trunk (boot if you like) to make room for a little "box" heat shield for the filter. The intake tube is real carbon fiber and crazy light and strong haha. Its actually a piece of brake ducting off a NASCAR race car that I have repurposed. Cut to fit, hole drilled for the one needed vacuum hose and a hole for the MAF sensor. I used the sensor mount off my old setup and epoxied it in place. Its not going anywhere ha. I also bypassed the heater hoses that goes to the throttle body to speed up warm ups, I live in FL, its not needed. I can't say that will do anything, but it is a popular thing to do in the car mod world so I figured why not. Makes sense that it could heat up the intake charge, and cold air is good air.

This might not be the best way but its what I built haha. I have more work do to on my car so I haven't been able to drive with this setup yet. It sounds awesome though haha. I also removed probably 40+lbs from the front of the car between the battery and metal tray that holds it. I'm also using a 15.5 lbs battery now, in the trunk. Weight relocation and reduction ha.

My next trick is going to be installing a mechanical trunk release in case the battery dies haha. Eventually I'll be running some ducting to my little "box" from the front bumper for more cold air in there. I have some more cool NASCAR carbon fiber parts for intake and brake ducts that i'll do some day.

PS, I don't care if you think the factory air box is better because that's how Jag made it.... enjoy.

No need for mechanical trunk release. Just make sure you have somewhere to plug power In, I'm not sure I'd replicate. But nice job. Glad to see some people posting about performance and mods instead of another "diagnose my car" thread

Way cool!!! I took the easy way out, because I was afraid of what to do if my battery died. I am sure you can still hook up a positive tap, in your engine compartment for just that special occasion. My 928S has one.....Great job.....Mike

Looks well constructed. Where are you drawing air into the box from as it looks quite closed off (unless there is a bonnet vent)?

P.s Don't forget to top up your coolant level.

Looks good!

If you haven't, make sure you vent that battery/battery box! Jag beats the hell out of the battery, and they outgas pretty significantly!

Nice bit of fabrication.

One thing though, have you vented the battery to outside of the trunk?

If not, take a look at how it is done on the XJ/XK models.

I took the cable that pops it from the inside of the car and extended a cable to behind the plate and put it through the black hole caps. I was also looking into a lock like the s types have. Maybe using the glove box lock so that the keys match. I don't lock my glovebox.

Hmmm any thoughts on this.

my plan is to connect to that cable and run one to the inside of the car, probably to under the drivers seat. I'm going to hit up the junk yards to find something OEM for a trunk release. Many cars have them so it should be easy. I'll probably get a cable from there too now that I think about it.

There is a decent triangular opening that opens the area where my box is in the fender well to the inner fender area. I doubt it will be pushing air into it, but I will be routing a 3in flexible NASCAR brake hose from the front bumper to my "box" eventually for that "ram air" of cooler outside air. My bumper is damaged so I'm not doing the ducting until I get my replacement painted and ready to go. Its crazy what you can find for sale on eBay by searching for NASCAR in parts haha.

I'm using an AGM sealed battery and while its said that they do not off gas I'm still going to run a vent tube, just to do it. I was going to go look at my XK though so good call haha.

Very nice.

Can you post a video with the sound of the car?

Thinking of trying this myself
