Default jaguar x type diesel Po403

I recently bought a jaguar x type 2.0 diesel estate 2005 with 82000 miles on the clock and a full Jaguar service history.

The power steering pump needed replacing at my local jaguar specialist together with the notorious squeaky rear suspension bushes.

A few hours later the engine management light came on. I took it back and they cleared the engine code relating to the EGR valve. They said if it came back on they would need to replace the EGR valve as cleaning would not work for long.... 'its a diesel its basically like oil your burning' so on.

The engine management light came back on. Bought a cheap code reader off Ebay and found the error code PO403 Exhaust gas Control Unit. I removed the EGR and cleaned it out myself. A day later the PO403 code reappeared. I bought a new vacuum EGR and replaced it together with flushing out the system with Wynns EGR Cleaner, replacing the air filter and re-attaching the front air intakes onto the rubber sleeves with self tapping screws (as recommended on this forum). The engine management light came back on. I've checked all the wiring and plugs relating to the air intakes and visible fastenings.

The car runs even better now, smooth and quite with the new air filters and new EGR, but still an engine management light comes on the second start up after clearing the error code.

Now I'm a bit stuck. What is the best course of action. Has the garage not replace something properly/tightly enough when fitting the new power steering pump?

Can it be damaging the engine in any way running the car with the error code?

Could it be the MAF sensor is dirty or malfunctioning. Can I take off the MAF sensor and clean it easily?

Could there be a tiny split somewhere?

Bite the bullet and take it to the garage and pay the bill for diagnostics etc?

Would an EGR blanking plate stop the code reappearing?

Any advice would be greatly received.
