What should the engine speed be for a 3.0 idling in park?

XKR, with the engine cold, it will be up around 1200-1300 RPM. With the engine warm, you are looking at around 700 RPM.

What is your car doing? I take it you have reason to question what the car is doing.

It seems to be about the same for a 2.5L. Mine starts out at 1250 cold, then goes to 730 at operating temp.
