Just bought an 04 x-type. What to look out for?
Just bought an 04' x-type 3.0 with 80k miles, one owner. Everything looks in well taken care of and it drives really well. Just wondering how these cars hold up with higher mileage and what are common issues to look out for. I plan on taking really good care of it and getting all the maintenance it needs with high quality stuff or doing it myself. What should be done around 80k miles? Thanks.

Replace the fluid in the transfer-case!!!!!!!!
Check the list there have been many, many, many discussions related to T-case failures. They are WAY under-engineered and WILL FAIL costing $$$$.
Trust me, I know, trust me, we ALL know...

My Five Dollars Worth...
Congratulations on your purchase! I, also, recommend that you get all fluids changed. Rear differential as well. As far as mileage, like with anyother vehicle it will depend on your driving habits. In town, I average 16-18. On the highway, up to 30. It will also depend on your maintenance. I have heard that the Jaugar X-Type typically does not get good milage in colder weather. Good luck!

Zach, like was mentioned, spend some time changing the fluids in the car. This will also give you time to get to know the car and find out how easy it is to do most of the maintenance on it. The transfer case is probably the hardest and if you have questions about it, take a look here as you will find lots of "I did it this way".
As long as you drive sensibly, the X-Type will outlast most vehicles on the road today. You like to go light to light as quickly as possible or other high RPM shifting maneuvers, you may find that the transfer case is going to fail and cost you lots of money (on average about $3000 to get a new transfer case installed). This car is more of a touring car, not a sports car. Do not want to burst your bubble, but that is the facts of it.
As for other maintenance, odds are you will have spark plugs at 100K miles along with the other recommend maintenance at 100K miles. I would also recommend doing a look at the brakes and making sure that the e-brake functions like it should. That seems to be a problem with the car as the e-brake lever will rust inside the caliper and freeze up on you. I have a write up on how to correct this if you do some looking.
Otherwise, enjoy the car. Time here will give you more information that you will probably ever need for the vehicle.
