k&n filter

k&n filter
not sure about cars, but this kinda makes sense. buddy of mine just bought a new harley. he was told that to put on the k&n filter he would have to reprogram the fuel injection syatem. since it is pulling in more air that will change the mix. not sure if that would help get the gains in power for a car though, since the computer is already mixing the fuel off the o2 sensor. but maybe this is why we don't feel anything more than a quicker response. any tuners out there know more about this .

RE: k&n filter
Just a suggestion. I heard that the K&N and many other brands out there make their filters with oily compound soaked into the paper that is why it stops the dust while providing decent air flow. BUT what that also means is that the oily stuff gets inside your throttle body and into the intake manifold which I think is not a good idea. I would not do it to my Jag. I heard of people that did find other filters out there that do not have any oil in them but I think they are hard to find and are more expensive but I think it is some good stuff.
Like I said I would not go with the K&N or any other generic brand like that.
What I do to my cars is find another air filter box for my car from a junkyard or salvaged car. Take off your original air box and set it aside so when the time comes to sell the car just pop in your original and you are good to go. Take off the bottom part the one that is below the air filter from the junked air box and cut out a big whole you can actually do it so it does not look bad at all if you do it right. Cut out just so that the whole is looking away from the engine so it catches as little of hot air as possible. Then put it all back together and inside the engine bay and you have a factory filter that cleans as it should and more air and sound.
Hope this will help someone

RE: k&n filter
Well you are partially correct..The K&N filter out of the box, is oiled perfectly..the problem people such as you mentioned are doing, is they are OVER oiling the filter when they clean it..I've had my K&N on the JAG and two other cars for many thousands of miles and my Intake tube, MAF and throttle body are all clean and oil residue free...So unless you know first hand, the myths are bogus in most cases..It's just improper oiling.
