Keyless Kross-up?

My keyless entry quit working suddenly. My first thought wasn't the battery, because you usually get several passes at close range when they are going dead.
But, I changed the battery. It still doesn't work. Well I thought back to when it quit. We went out to eat. I didn't drop it. Nothing special happened to the transmitter.
But, I did remember, we parked next to another Jag Xtype, close or same year. They were gone when we came out, and that was the first time the keyless didn't work.
Do these keyless systems change codes each lock/unlock sequence? Could our cars have been on the same code when they came out, which moved my car to their new code?
How can I re-sequence the codes if that is what is happening?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas.:icon_angel:

if you changed the battery, reprogram your key fob

Not sure about the krossover - that wouldn't be so good. But if you did change the battery already, you have to reprogram the transmitter to the car. This is the procedure I followed - it worked for me last year aftyer my battery died. I have forgoten which of the wonderful wizards or wankers on this forum originally posted it - but here I am repeating it:

All required remote transmitters must be available when carrying out this procedure.
1. Open driver's door. . Turn the ignition switch to the "auxiliary" position, then turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and back to the "auxiliary" position four times.
Note: A chime from the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) will indicate programming status has been enabled.
3. Turn the ignition switch to "OFF" position.
4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
5. To program the transmitter, press any key within 10 seconds.
Note: If the remote transmitter has been accepted, the GEM will make a chime.
6. If any other remote transmitters are to be programmed, press any button once on each transmitter within 10 seconds.
Note: A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed
7. Close driver door. Complete

I'm having a problem with my keyless entry also. When i push the button on remote, everything works except my locks. I can ven hear the clicking of actuation from the glovebox area. But none of my locks will work. Subsiquentley, I can't open my trunk. Any ideas? I have a 2004 X-Type with no manual keyed entry for the trunk.

Do your locks work - does the car lock when you drive off, and if you manually lock / unlock the car with the switch above the door handle do they work?

If they do, then as long as the car is unlocked, you can walk up, press the trunk button and it will open.

Will the car lock /unlock all the doors with the key

If not, the problem isn't in the keyless per se but rather the central locking system.

First thing you want to start with is fuses. Then we'll get into tearing the car apart and testing if needed. What year is your X?

It's a 2004 I looked at the fuse box, but it doesn't have the fuse diagram, and I don't have a manuel.

John

There are two fuse boxes, one under the hood on the driver's side fender, and one in the car. Both contain fuses used by the power locks.

Under the hood you need to check F24 and F25, and in the car you need to check F75.

See attached PDF for details. - Fuses you need to check are highlighted.

Ok, great info Thanks! Now, I used the diagram and checked the fuses. However, the diagram is different than my fuse boxes. Both of the (power distribution and central junction). I did check F25, it was fine. But it was a 30 amp fuse, not a 15 as it states it should be. So I checked ALL 15 amp fuses, all are ok. also configuration is all different. In the central junction, inside car, I have F1-F55?
I have a 2004 X-Type 3.0, are you sure of the correct diagram?

Just as a thought. I have replaced the battery on my 2003 X-type, and didn't lose anything. I used the little gadget that takes a 9 volt battery, and plugs into the cigarette lighter. If you use them, they work...JUST REMEMBER TO PUT THE KEY ON ACCESSORY....

Battery disconnection will not affect power lock functions or keyless entry programming. The rom is not volatile. I've had the battery out of my X for over a day, having taken it to my brother's shop to charge, and realizing it had a dead cell, which led to installing a replacement. Car started back up fine, and the keys worked fine.

I've replaced my battery as well, about a year ago. Only thing it affected was the windows. But just reset one finger touch auto, and now they work fine.

John,

You have mail.

Let me know the details of my questions there.
