knock knock whose there? tic tac tic tac

i have a noisy xtype, i just want it less noisy,

could this be a bad tensioner? bad sensors?

why are the tappets making noise too?

is the timing off

would getting the injectors recoded make a difference?

helllppppp!!!!!!!!

Your SUBJECT line is not helpful; always make SUBJECT what the problem is!

Don't mind jag he is just on his period, I would say that's a bad tensioner, could be bad on it's own or could be caused from the crank pulley going bad over time , either way it might be safer to replace both but inspect it further first.

as for tic sounds the tappets could have old oil stuck in them, you can get a valve cleaner lifter from Halfords and see if that helps. If it doesn't then check your exhaust manifold, these can warp over time from all the heat so then you can basically hear inside the engine lol
if it's not that then maybe something else is damaged like the lifters

is it auto or manual??

A couple of months ago we purchased a 2008 X-Type 3.0/AT w/ 90k on it.. The 30-min pre-purchase road test went fine, another 30-min later (after handing over the cash and heading for home) the car began making the EXACT noise as OP's video. I started doing heavy research and came up w/ 2 "logical" possibilities; Loose torque converter bolts or the belt tensioner. The next morning I checked the torque conv bolts and the tensioner, the bolts were tight and no noise from the tensioner using a stethoscope. The end result was a internal failure (most likely a connecting rod). I sourced a used engine w/ 70k for $1300.00 installed (with a 30-day parts and labor warranty), and the car has been fine since.

Putting another $1500.00 (engine & labor, rental car, etc) into a car that I just paid $3000.00 for was painful... It's just one of those things (or s**t happens).

We now like Janet's X-Type so much that we just purchased a 2007 3.0/AT w/70k on it for me (mine's the black one :) )

Thats such a shame! $1300 for wrecker motor is an awful lot they usually go for about £300 (maybe they're more desirable in the US?)
These engines love to starve themselves of oil tho and the stock oil press. Sensor is set to come on under 5psi over a certain RPM or sustained duration which is so low ur engine is toast before the oil light even shows
i installed aftermarket oil press. and oil temp guages in my XJ (same engine) coz ive replaced 3 of them with rod knocks (2 in my xtype)
I would say some aft. Market guages are essential for preventing an otherwise very good engine from becomming a coffee table!
