Default 05’ xtype wagon DSC SYSTEM FAULT

Hi ,
I have a 05’ Xtype wagon the “DSC SYSTEM FAULT” comes up on dash and “ABS” light comes on when I try to put shifter into reverse. The tail lights don’t go on when my foot is on the brake .And I just realized the tailgate won’t OPEN either. The lock won’t disengage.
Has anyone had these issues before at the same time suddenly ?The last thing that happened was my drivers side tail light went out .When I replaced the bulb I had to take the speaker out. Then when I went to test drive it I couldn’t get ithe shifter to move .DSC fault system light came on and ABS light ,the tailgate won’t open and brake lights don’t go on when I put foot on brakes. If anyone could help I would be so thankful.I’m beginning to loose faith in my Jaguar.

HI Zimmermann,

Double check you haven't lost fuse F51 (7.5A) in the passenger junction fuse box....it supplies power to the two brake pedal switches.
One of the brake pedal switches (Brake stop switch) sends 12 volts through to your rear stop lights (including high stop), plus gives indication of brake position to ECM and TCM (which could lock shifter into park position if it thinks you haven't got your foot on brake).
The second switch (Brake cancel switch) feeds brake pedal position into ECM for I believe to be the cruise control cancelling etc.

Not unheard of for one of these switches to fail, and I suspect your issue (if not the fuse) may be with the lower switch of the two which is the brake stop switch.
You can probably disconnect the plug to switch and jumper the plug pins 1 (Green/White) and 3 (Brown/Red) to test if you can now move gear selector out of park successfully.
If so replace the switch....there are two part numbers C2S3680 if your Vin is up to J02540, or C2S46705 if your VIN is J02451 or above.

Not sure why you have tailgate issues, but is it just the tailgate not releasing or tailgate and tailgate glass not releasing? (separate switches and actuators for those two functions I see).
General Electronics Module might inhibit tailgate activity if it thinks car is in gear or moving, so fix brake light issue/gear selection issues first and see it tailgate resumes operation.

Can't think of why accessing left rear tail light area would cause this issue unless F51 was blown as a result. All rear tail light earths are to different locations and rear assembly earthing wouldn't explain gear shifter issues.

Battery first! A depleted battery will trigger all sorts of seemingly random or unconnected issues.

Hi Karen,
Well done....glad to help.
Hopefully the headlight is a straight forward bulb replacement to repair, but if you need some further troubleshooting help you know where to find us all.
