Longer wheel studs? Part #?
 

I bought some new wheels for my new X Type. It had some 2006 S Type 12 spokes on it when I got it. The new wheels clearly have a different thickness at the hub flange because the stock studs come up short. I can see 1/4 to 1/2" of the inside of the new lug nuts. Not cool.

A little research in my catalog shows me the Lincoln LS uses a 10mm longer stud, which sounds perfect. Only the new ones aren't threaded for the last 10MM or so. Anyone know of a stud to grab three to five more turns?

Are the new rims lug-centric?
Perhaps you need different lug nuts.
My rims required a different style than factory.

Stock lugs with the chrome cover taken off fit most rims and grab plenty of thread.
Works if you have center caps to hide them.

My new wheels are aftermarket with the same offset and specs as stock, just larger diameter. Problem is, the hub is thicker than the original wheels. Very little lug really comes through, maybe 4-5 threads. The wheels are hub centric, made for this car. I know the stock lugs are short to account for the capped lug nuts, I'm just looking for a longer stud to accommodate these wheels.

The new wheels came with new hardware. They are simple conical lug nuts, open ended. There just isn't enough of the stud coming through the wheel to get more than 4 or 5 turns.

Those must be some thick wheel pads, I haven't had this problem with any of the sets of wheels I've run, and haven't heard of anyone else needing to do this. I think you are kind of on your own to figure out what will fit.

I checked them yesterday. They are indeed thick. The manufacturer told me they are built the way they are because it allows the wheel to be used in multiple applications either centering by lugs or hub. In the event it is used in a lug-centric application, they want the material to be strong.

I checked penetration via thread powder and am getting six threads under torque. Technically, all of the load in this type of joint is applied over 6, and 5 would easily suffice. Either way, they sent me a set of extended thread lug nuts that will grab another 3-4 threads. Problem solved.

Well that's good, now lets see these things.

Don't tell nobody, but I am riding on 3 threads on all but two studs.
