Default missing-p0420-mushy brakes

EDIT: Now runs like it's missing and no CEL.
made it 600 miles past 200K
situation: a-ok to this; started running rough on the highway(the smell was perfect) till parked. Brakes do not feel right now, only code is p0420-p1000.

Is this a major vacuum leak in one of the common areas or the brake booster check valve? Valve looks ok from visual inspection, see no rust on the bottom of the booster either.

Or if you been here before and know for sure please share.
Happy St Patrick's Day

edit2,missing at low rpm but seems ok higher rpm 3.5k

innzane, do you have a code reader that you can see your O2 voltages? If so, I would look at those to get an idea of which O2 sensor may be bad. that could be causing the timing to be delayed some, leading to a lower vacuum and a more mushy brake pedal. If you don't, then if you don't mind a ride, I have one and we can look over your car to see what we can find.

I got a nice fluke auto meter, I think it will do it. I did not see any air leaks, just the normal lil hiss at initial throttle press it always has had so....
Probably Sunday on the volts. May buy a truck tomorrow, wife says that is the reason the car is acting up. I figure 200K miles and NO new stuff barring an O2 sensor and gaskets.

CEL was blinking while driving and missing, went away totally exiting highway. Then back then gone, weird.

Blinking = severe misfires doing actual catalyst damage
Do not drive it till fixed!

Almost certainly an air leak. No hiss should be heard. (Will also be why you have brake trouble.)

See the many posts about fuel trims and what to do. (An elm327 is cheap and great.)

elm327 I see online for like $4, what do I need to go with it? Is there a download for the Jag, the JTIS thing perhaps?

innzane, all you need is an android based phone. The app you need to download is able to be gotten off of the internet for free. Look up an app called "Torque".

On a side note, there are 2 versions of the ELM unit. There are versions 1.4 and 2.1. Your car can use either one. But, if you plan on using this unit on another car that was made on or after 2005, then you will want the 2.1 version. There was a major shift in how the OBD systems exchanged information and the version 1.4 units will not work with this improved system. The Torque app can be applied to any vehicle. The ELM unit is also universal to any vehicle that has an OBD port.
