Unhappy multiple issues: dome lights, door ajar signal, trunk

2002 x-type.

1. door ajar signal is lit up on dashboard

2. Dome lights and foot lights are on and remain on even when driving the car. they go off after some time once the car is parked

3. Remote will not lock the car - gives a double beep of horn and lights flash but doors do not lock.

4. Neither the car remote or toggle switch open the trunk

5. Right rear turn signal went out

This all happened at the same time. Are they related somehow?

Attmpted fixes:

changed remote battery - did not help
closed all doors repeatedly - none are open as far as i can tell
pushed all buttons for dome lights - none on that i can tell

Please tell me what options exist for trouble shooting (and where to at least start)

Everything you describe has the General Electronics Module in common. First thing to do is to disconnect the battery for several minutes, reconnect, then wait at lease 30 seconds. Get in and close the door and see if the interior lights work correctly. If so, great, if not, you probably have a failed GECM. It's located above the passengers feet and has five multi-colored connectors, easy to spot. It takes dealer configuration if it is replaced though.

Good luck!

Gold, problems 1-4 are all related to one of your door switches as being seen as the door being open. The trick is, figuring out which door the switch is sticking in. If you look in the door latch of each door, you can normally see a small plastic button. This is the door latch switch. If you spray this with some WD-40, this will normally free up the switch and fix your problem. If that doesn't fix your problem, then you have have a wire that has gotten damaged and it grounding against the body of the car (have you done any work inside of a door recently or under the dash?). This will cause what you are seeing for problems 1-4 too.

As for problem #5, is it only the turn signal or is it the whole turn signal? This changes things dramatically. If you simply don't have the turn signal, replace the bulb first and then see what you have at that point. If that doesn't fix it, then let me know and we will go from there. if it is the whole turn signal, then odds are you have a plug that came undone or the ground wire has a problem.

Thank you guys SO much! It was one of the GEM plugs. Someone must have kicked it loose. Saved me a trip to the dealership and lots of service fees I'm sure. Forever grateful!
