Need advice 2003 x-type 3.0
 

I got this car about 6 months ago its hs d the check engine light on for a O2 sensor code. Drives fine on wed the red ! Came on and didn't have power on take off anybody got good advice.

Welcome to the forums. Best advice I can give you is if you have a RED light on your dash do not drive the car. That means you can do some real damage to the car. What code are you getting? Post the number here and it will be easier for someone to help you diagnose it. If the red light is on it could mean your catalytic converter is plugged. Hard to say with the limited info you provided. When it is not an amber check engine light and it is red that means there is something very serious happening that can damage the car.

Don't mean to sound like a smartass, but if you have a red light on your dash and you know it is for an oxygen sensor why not start with replacing that? How long has that light been on for that oxygen sensor?

Not sure just a single bad O2 sensor will cause a red light. It has alternate fuel mapping to deal with a bad sensor. But....

I'm not sure how the code is written. I wonder if you get red engine light if both the up stream and down stream sensors fail, or if the exhaust temps are out of whack. I suspect the red is on to protect what's left of the cat converter. Unless you have an extra $1200 EACH to replace them I'd get that kitty in the shop. Tow it there.

Dude, could be the rear 02 sensors which do not cost a fortune to replace and are relatively easy to get at. I am dealing with the same code error (downstream sensors) and as soon as the weather breaks. Im gonna fix it. No big…Oh, Wait a minute.. You said RED light?…umm sorry. never mind. I defer to experience...

Ok took off upper o2 sensor and it had bare wire could this cause red light ! For the drive train because I got my obd code reader back and only picked up cat codes and msg sensor codes

That was MAF sensor codes

2003 s type 3.0 jaguar, check engine light on code 1108. Looked up and one web site says it means dual alternator battery lamp malfunction. Other site says MAP sensor. Don't know which one to beleive

Cat converter repair kit: long chisel and hammer. :)
