Need help from a JAg Tech - "E" codes from DTC
 

I have a CAN-equipped X-Type (2004) and can read codes only by using the OEM in-dash gauge cluster readout - my aftermarket code reader will not read codes on this car. I am getting active code E0511 and have never seen an OBD code precluded by an "E" and all search attempts on the Internet are futile - as is JTIS search from the copies I have downloaded from the Web (they only go to 2003 model).

What the heck is code E0511? I'm happy to replace whatever needs replacing, but I need to know the issue first.

BTW: this happened after installing the left front replacement strut, but I doubt there is a connection.

execpat, the DTC codes only have 1 of 4 letters on the front of them, C, U, P, or B. There are no error codes that start with the letter E. Now, if you are pulling them from the instrument cluster using the diagnostic feature in that, then the code you have is in hexidecimal form and needs to be converted over to the standard notation. There is some trick to it, I just don't know what that trick is at the moment.

UPDATE: Apparently E510 and E511 are "road speed" error codes. I've been advised to get a CAN-compatible OBD2 reader (mine apparently isn't CAN-capable) to get the codes from it. There are no symptoms other than the CEL, so I'm hoping I can just erase the codes and not see it again.

Edit: E511 in Hex = 58641 in Dec - no idea how this helps anything.

511 = 1297 ... that could make sense

exexpat, I looked up any chance of error codes with 1297 in them and there are none. So, not sure what to tell you at this point.

Thanks. I should be able figure it out once I pull codes from the right OBDII reader. I'm traveling in DC at the moment and returning on Thursday. At that point I'll find out.

Exexpat, I am going to be in DC tomorrow (7/13) for a medical appointment. I am going to be also walking around the National Mall area for most of the day too. Too bad we can't meet up somewhere. So close yet so far.

Shame. I am fully engaged in the conference tomorrow (Microsoft Partner Conference), but I had time today.

I am getting the same codes from from the instrument cluster. Did you find out what those codes, E510 and E511, mean?
