In need of some advice!
 

Hi all! First post so let's see how this goes!
Have an X type 2.5 v6 sport AWD and have recently had some issues, first it refused to start and the fault code indicated a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor. Replaced that and she still refused to start. The code that now appears is ECU defective. But is it as simple as replacing ecu and transponder? In serious need of help and wisdom. Thanks Dan

you need to "pair" the ECU with the car.

How us this done? Is it complex?

In order to be of the best help we need to know the codes. It is unlikely that one day the ecu is good and the next day it isn't. There are quite a few things that affect the ECU. Fuses, wiring, connectors and sensors. It takes a bit of troubleshooting to decide the ECU is toast.
Post the codes and we can see how we can help.

With any electrical problems on the X-type
first thing to check is the battery,
our cars are very sensitive to a weak battery. all the computers need 12V not 5V or 3.3V like other makes.
fully charge your battery and have it load tested.

Word of caution our cars also do not like getting jump started.

When plugged into the computer all that came up was ECU defective. No code as such. You'll have to bare with me I'm not used to cars with all this technology 😕.

first you will need to buy an ECU. same year and same engine as your car.
try the junkyards or part cars because as you might know already ECU's are quite expensive.

plug n' play... see what happens.

if this does not work you will have to go to a service or mechanic who is familiar with ECU's or car software issues. he should be able to pair your car with the new ECU via OBD and specialized software.

i had the same issue but not on my jag. it was on another car... had to change the ECU.

I have bought an ecu, transponder and clocks so fingers crossed.
