Default New X Type Owner - Couple of issues

Good afternoon. I bought a used 2004 3.0 liter model with 72000 miles this week and love the looks of the car and the firm suspension; British Racing Green with the tan leather interior. I noticed when I hit some bumps at speed there is a rattle sound coming from the rear of the car, I haven't looked under neath yet but what else could it be besides the sway bar? A couple of other items I noticed are the passenger side headlight seems to have the broken plastic adjusters that seem to be very common and the a and c pillar covers have the loose fabric that will bother me until I fix them. I look forward to many years of enjoyment out of this car.

welcome to the Forums. Lots of great information here. But, we do ask a small favor of you. Please stop by the New Member Section and tell us a little bit about yourself and your car. We pride ourselves in being a better car group and as part of this, we like to get to know one another. This will also give you a chance to meet those that make this place what it is.

As for your rattle in the rear Sway bar is the #1 culprit but check out the post

best thing to do is get under the car and see what you can find let us know and we shall point you in the right direction as to finding the parts you need.

also grab a cup of coffee and get your reading glasses

Better make that a pot.... There is days of reading and re reading on here. The rattle could just be your spare tire iron rattling around. Check that out before anything. It happened to me I hate to say it. Did all the "bones " in the rear and still the noise... Opened up the trunk, pulled back the cover, and BAM There was that noise hitting the tire and bottom of wheel holder.

Have fun and Enjoy your new ride,
The Dr!

Default Couple of Issues

Welcome Snake! This forum has proven itself to be the single most helpful forum I've ever been a part of as I'm sure you'll see! I am far from a mechanic so I will let the others tackle those issues for you, but if you do a search of threads posted by me, I had the same issue with my A-pillars and I re-attached the fabric pretty easily, if you need any help on this.

Thanks Paul. I ran across this site when researching the car so I had some ideas of what I was out for when I bought it. I'll work on updating my profile info in the coming days and catch up on that reading!

It was at a dealer in Carlisle, saw it one day when I went out to lunch. Drove it that day and really liked the car, since I was looking for a replacement commuter vehicle I figured what the heck! Sure beats the Old Nissan I was driving at the time.

Just wanted to say thank you Dr. Opened up the boot to check on the spare and what do you know...the bolt was loose and the spare was able to move ever so slightly. Tightened it down, went for a drive on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and the rattle is gone. Saved me a couple of hours of searching I would guess!
