One Problem Solved, Two More to Go...

Hi everyone, good news and bad news, the uknown liquid was radiador fluid, was not a big deal. The problem still exist with the key being stuck. The mechanic said we would need to replace the entire shifting mechanism. It would cost me about $400-$500, he also mention that this might also be a cable or linkage from the shifter to the transmission. Is there a quick fix, such as a disabling a fuse, or unpluging a cable that will allow me to take out the keywhenever. I'm even thinking going redneck style and wiring my own fricking switchto disable thecurrent.
Doesanywhere I can get cheap parts for a Jaguar X-Type, because I also need to replace a front bearing.
I'm thinking about replacing it myselfif I have enough free time? Where can I get some diagrams of either the shifter, or instruction on how to replace a bearing since I've never done it anything like it.

Also, while driving an X-type at normal speed/RPMs(around 2000)are you supposed to feel a slightlaunch whenthe automatic transmissionchanges gear, similar buta lot softerthan amanual transmission.
How can I check for potential future problems.

I apologize for such a long post. I can't wait tofully enjoy my ride. Thanks Everyone.

Can't help you with the key issue.

For the bearing, get the whole hub assembly. If you get the bearing by itself, you will have to press it in the hub, not fun.

Thats what I was thinking, I called to various shops, and the priced ranged from $600 to $275 just to replace the bearing. I dont even want to know what the Jaguar dealer would charge me.Just to look atthecar anddiagnose itthey said$125. I dont really have the tools, time or space since I live in college dorm, so I have to deal withshady mechanics trying to rip college students off.

To do the hub assembly, all you need is a socket set.
