I am in the middle of researching what I want to do on my 05 Estate to update from Premium sound / non-Nav, to a Modern Double DIn. Search the forum, there are may threads. Read up first to get an idea of what you want to do, then I am sure several of us will be happy to help. (I have about 4 hours of forum reading already invested into the project before I have even decided what to do.)

One of the bigger decisions is what to do about the custom Alpine 10 channel amp in the trunk, It is connected to the radio/CD by a fiber optical cable, The speaker wires are all routed to the amp. If you replace the amp with a 5 or 6 channel amp, then you can hook up the speaker wires, via crossovers directly to the new amp and then route new RCA lines your chosen head unit. If you don't use a new amp in the trunk, then you will have to route speaker wires to the head unit.

If you have nav, then there are other options, but a lot more work overall to upgrade.

There are several posts that list the available adapter harness P/Ns and everything you will need.
