Radiator fan keeps running after car is switched off

I have seen post on radiator fan that keeps running long after car is switched off. My 2006 x-type 3.0 does the same. I have taken it to the mechanic and he told me that I need to replace the fan resistor. All the places tell me that they sell the complete fan assembly, seems I have no choice but to buy the complete set. I would to know how to replace it myself, is the a place where I can find the engine schematics that will assist me in doing the work myself? How complicated is it to do the work?

Thanks

The component you are looking for is the fan control module. The new ones only come as part of the entire fan assembly. You can look it up on the SNG Barratt web site. They stock the replacement. You could try a used one from a breaker.
You can download the complete electrical guide from the following web site provided by GUS a forum member.

Thank you very much Vern

I will keep myself busy with trying this out. I will have to wait a while for the parts though. I will update my outcome.

Before you spend money on throwing parts at this problem, has your mechanic tried replacing the engine thermostat? Quite often when the radiator fan continues to run after the vehicle is shut off can be traced to a sticking thermostat.

fan

I had this problem and it was the cylinder thermostat.
