radiator fan relay location.??
 

im looking for the location of the radiator fan relay. i been all over google and i cant find an answer to what im looking for anywhere. if anyone can help me out i would greatly appreciate it..

The fans are adjusted by the cooling fan motor control module which is controlled by the engine control module (ECM). The ECM determines the cooling fan speed by receiving inputs from the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor and the dual automatic temperature control module (DATC). The ECM sends a signal to the fan motor control module to operate the cooling fans at the required speed. The cooling fans are operated at slow speed when the engine coolant temperature is at 95°C (203°F) and are operated at full speed when the engine coolant temperature is at 105°C (221°F).

I can't find a relay listed in the Electrical Guide for the fans or module.

I am not 100% sure but I believe the module has the relay built in. May I ask why you arte looking for it? Fans not working? or do they not shut off? anyway I will keep an eye on this thread.

Greenbeast, first off, what vehicle and year are we talking about here? That may clarify some of the confusion that I think we are all experiencing.

As for the X-Type, it does not have a fan relay. Like GGG said, the ECM sends a signal to the Fan module (located behind the driver's side headlight on the side of the radiator, it is the silver finned box that you see there) which then converts the signal to a pulsed signal to drive the fans at various speeds. There is no relay inside that module as I have torn that module apart and seen what the guts look like. If you are getting a signal sent to the fan module but the fans are not running, then odds are, you have bad transistors inside the module (common fault with the X-Type).

If it is another model that we are talking about, lets us know which one and we will assist from there.

i have 2003 2.5L x type. most of my searches online to finding a reason as to why my fan wont turn on anymore lead me to think there was a relay to the radiator fans besides the fan control module. you guys just confirmed now that there isnt a relay.
i had a fan making alot of noise before my fans stopped working.i got a used fan from a junkyard with no control module.installed and it wouldnt turn on when the car was normal temp.

greenbeast, the fan modules area a weak link in our cars. Hence why you found someone willing to sell you the fan minus the controller. Not to say that the fans themselves can not fail or there are other possibilities,but from our experiences, when the fans do not work, 99% of the time it is because the fan module failed. With that being said, take a look at parts.com and you should be able to get one fairly cheap. They may try to sell you a controller from an 04+ vehicle. WARNING!!!!! It will bolt up to your car, but you have to also get a wiring adapter harness as Jaguar realized that the fan module was weak and they made a better module. But, when they did this, they put a different plug on it. So, Jaguar has made the adapter harness to allow those with the older setup the ability to use the newer module.

So my fan is also not working on my 2004 x type 3.0 I know the fan itself is good because I hooked power directly to it to test it. However I also hooked power directly to the fan control module and the fan kicked on as well. But could my module still be bad even though when I hooked power straight to it? I've narrowed the problem down to it either being the module itself is bad somehow or the ECM is not telling my fan to come on. I've replaced the temp sensor as well thinking that was the problem but no luck. Can anyone give me any insight on this?

There is a high and low on the fan module. You could have one but not the other. These tend to go bad because of faulty solder points and over heat causing resistors to blow. Either way i have some available to purchase if you need. My cell is 484-903-4813.

So are you saying that there are 2 modules or one with 2 settings. I actually did some more toying with it and I noticed that one fan is coming on in short bursts. Not particularly fast bursts just little one and it will even do this when I only turn the key to accessory mode it's almost like the module isn't converting the power like it should. It's luke it's storing the power and then releasing it before it's ready if that makes sense. The fan actually did this a couple times after I shut the car off I let it run until it got to they halfway mark on the emo gauge to see if it would make the fan move faster but it didn't and only one fan does this the second doesn't come on at all

Yes it sounds like the fan module is not working right. And yes its 1 module 2 different speeds. A high and low.

If you find that the module is bad would you please save it for me? I will pay for the shopping to get it to me.

I want to do a service / repair posting on them and need bad units to work on.
