Hi I wonder if anyone could throw some light on a rattle or rumbling on my jaguar x-type 2.0 diesel 2006 estate the car runs great no problems until you let it idle . the car idles at around 900 to 1000 rpm at which time some say a rattle others say a rumbling starts down the left hand side were the alternator and I believe power steering pump is , I have being told to buy and upgrade the belt tensioners as they have gone , but I have also being told that the noise is coming from the power steering unit , the noise goes away once you add more power over 1000 rpm and the car sounds sweet , other than that the car is fantastic.

Sounds like the pulley, rattles at idle and goes away at higher revs!! common fault, the standard pulley was not up to the job! Get a genuine kit, not aftermarket as they are rubbish and not much cheaper!!
