Default rear brakes sticking

Hi all not been on for a while but having trouble with rear brakes sticking on with the hand brake i fitted new calipers and new cables and it still does it if i remove the cable from the calipers and work the lever it moves freely back and forth and returns fully back no problem but when i refit cables they will not return fully back without a little help have looked at the handbrake lever and there is a big coil spring in there it a self adjusting system on a 3.0 auto 2001 this spring seems to be pulling on the cable too much is there any way to adjust this as in the book to replace the lever is a bit of a job

Fourbyfourbyfour, if you get under the car, crawl under the center of the car and find where the e-brake lever comes out. Now, follow the cable back to where it splits into 2 cables. If you look between those cables, you should see a nut there. Loosen on that nut some until the e-brakes stop being engaged while the lever is fully down. Sounds like someone tried to fix worn pads by adjusting the nut vice simply running the e-brake lever up and down a few times to allow the brakes to adjust themselves.

If you need to know any more, let us know. The only other "problem" that I can think of is someone found some cables that were close in length and installed those and that is causing the levers to be pulled all the time.

Did you install the parking brake cables? You would need to back off and re tighten the adjuster to get them on.
How did you know when to stop tightening the adjuster?

Maybe you just need to play with the adjustment under the car as Thermo explained?

Dell, I think you linked the wrong thing. What you linked is a cable tester. not a video on how to do brake work.
