Jaguarloso: What size engine & year?

Jaguarloso: JTIS instructions are to tighten the intake manifold bolts to 10 Nm / 7.4 Ft Lbs for a 2002. See attached pic from the JTIS.

thanks alot yea itwas the 02 jaguar x type 2.5. after replacing the coil the engine isnt shaking like it used to. replaced all 6 sparkplugs and my car actually goes over 3k rpm now !!! ive had the car 2 weeks its been a nightmare. ford wanted to charge me 1200 for the tune up and a jag expert wantd $80 an hour and needed the car a few days. one thing that worries me is that i unplugged the black battery terminal. i hope thats now what took the limp mode off and it was actually the tune up. the old sparkplugs looked old! and the coils were marked all differently like if they didnt know what was coil 6 it was marked as 2. now i just need to find a buyer for it hopefully.

Also a big thanks from me - needed this info yesterday myself :-)

BTW - the picture in the manual looks ... reversed ... compared to looking at our engines in the bay?

It looks more like an S-Type manifold but I guess there's no difference in torque specs.

JTIS depicts the reassembly of a freestanding engine, i.e., unencumbered by the engine compartment, suspension, rack & pinion, etc. The pic is the JTIS view of an X-Type intake manifold from the firewall-side of the engine.

Wouldn't it be nice if we has such easy access!

Jim: $80.00/ HR is a bargain ours wants $125.00 and a Non Ford/Jag place is $80.00 and thats just to connect a computer.

It's not firewall side you actually have that acsess, taking off an inlet manifold is done in 5-10 min max but X-Type manifold has throttle body on the right side and a sharper turn from there.

Oops, you're right......you're left!

jaguarloso,

how old is you cat?
mine is a 2002 and a year ago I managed do break a bolt applying the correct torque.
He can be wrong but it is my mechanics opinion that after a few years and kms you shoul apply less torque than specified to avoid breaking.

It would be wiser to get new bolts than torque them anything less than specified.

yep.... thats what I did.
After I broke one, I decided to replace them all (they are cheap).
I also think that a little less torque is not drastic if your gaskets are new(ish)
