Replacing Windshield Reveal Moldings | 03 xtype
 

So the 2 vertical weatherstripping pieces on my jaguar xtype are pretty well rotted at this point.

Invested in a set of the reveal moldings, and they seem to be part of the plastic trim on ether end of the windshield too. So inspecting the back of the new pieces it kinda seems like it slides in and clips into somewhere.

Sadly I haven't found any videos on tutorials online to assist me here. Even though I could probably go out and figure it out a long the way, the location of these pieces is what I would call sensitive.

With that in mind hopefully you guys can give me some advice on how to tackle this job properly.

The trim is held on by plastic clips mounted to the windscreen gasket. You pry off the trim starting at the base on the glass side and working upward. See attached blowup.

How many clips are on each side and do they require a special tool to remove the molding from the clips?

It has been awhile and I don't remember the exact number but there was a bunch.
Tool wise I use a trim removal kit it has different pry bars made from nylon and plastic so as not to scratch the paint work.

I replaced the vertical windshield trim yesterday.
I did not have to use any tools.
Standing at the side of the car, pull directly towards yourself - working your way down the length of it to remove the strip.
The back of the new trim pieces has a tongue running the length of the strip. The tongue slips into the metal channel.
once positioned properly, I pounded it home using open palms and a fist.

You can see the metal channel on the left that the tongue on the back of the molding fits into. Note that there is a notch at the halfway point that you have to line up.

Do you mind sharing the part numbers for the trim you installed? Won’t be long for the rest of us I’m sure

there are two different part numbers one for left, one for right. At SNG Barratt they call it a "Finisher-win" and the passenger side part is C2S36549 and drivers side is C2S36550.
A bit pricey at $58 each for a 30" strip of rubber and plastic, but you bought the Jaguar instead of the Toyota, so no crying allowed.

So what would the cost of the Toyota part be? If they even have a strip like that, I would guess even if it would be cheaper, it wouldn't be that much.
