reverse parking sensor problem
 

Well, couldn't find the other thread so here we go.

Don't work anymore, when i sart the car, put it into reverse, the sound comes on, even though nothing is there, then completely stops.

Thermo, i checked, and theres is cliking in the sensors. WHAT now..?

You most likely have a sensor out. But first check the connections to all 4 behind the rear valence. Clean the sensor terminals and then re-test. The sensor that isn't "pinging" is the one that is toast.

how do i get access tot he terminals and sensors, sorry never undertaken this before

Disco, first, put your ear next to each sensor and see if all 4 of them are clicking/chirping. If they are, then you have a problem with the backup sensing module more than likely. If 3 of the 4 are chirping, the one that isn't is your problem.

As for accessing them, you will need to reach up and around the rear bumper cover. You will be able to access them that way. 2 point straight out (the ones in the center) and 2 are bent 90 degrees so they hug the bumper cover (outer ones). To undo the plugs, it is like any other plug, release the locking mechanism and pull on the connector a little bit and it will pop right off. As for getting the sensor out, you will more than likely need to get the bumper cover off and then you will need to release the tabs on each side of the sensor and then pop it out of the cover. If you are good with your hands, you might be able to pop it out with the bumper cover still installed.

So what am i looking at for the cost of replacing/repairing the module, or one of the sensors

Disco, I had to replace one of mine, I went through http://www.jaguarparts.com. I think I paid $50 USD delivered to my house.

Disco, take it from me (I learned the hard way). When removing the sensors, undo the clips on the inside of the bumper cover and then push the sensors out by pushing on the outside of the sensor (outside portion of the bumper cover). If you try to pull them back through, you are likely to bust a sensor. TRUST ME!!!! Hence why I had to replace a sensor. There is a big plastic piece with really fine wires on the inside for the sensor. If you crack that plastic, odds are you are going to trash those wires. So, use your thumb and push the sensor back towards the center of the car when trying to remove them.

After reading all the posts from the S section, it was unclear what was being pulled and pushed from where to where. Crystal clear now.

My situation is a bit different. I have a '03 x308 with the familiar 10 second tone on reverse. Got under the bumper (fairly easy to access without jacking, btw) and noticed a lead/connector dangling. Plugged it into the LCtr sensor, and voila!... it fixed nothing. Problem still there. Crestfallen, I put the key into position II (engine off), set the e-brake and put it in reverse. Note, you do not need to have the engine on for the rear sensors to activate, as a matter of fact, I recommend strongly against it (muffler=>hot, car=>move) even with the e-brake well set and wheels chocked.

Center sensors chirping away, left and right - silent. I reached up around each muffler and compressed the connector and wires tighter against the sensors and the sensors came to life... so I have an electrical connection issue. Given the car is 9yo, not too surprising there is likely some corrosion or lack of 'bite' on the connector. I am working on removing the sensors and spending a little quality time with an emery board and needle nose pliers on the contacts. Hopefully a cheap and quick fix. I'll follow-up with any progress.

All 4 sensors needed to be removed and the connections re-seated. The silicon boot that keeps dirt/moisture out requires a very firm press so the locking tab on the connector catches. Once reseated, the sensors work perfectly. Cheapest and quickest fix ever.
