Reversing switch

Hi

First thanks for the welcome posts to the Forum.
Now a question. The reversing lights and parking warning system were not working. On investigation looking for the gearbox switch I found the plug (2 Green/Black wires) loose by the battery one assumes the switch is faulty (easy fix just unplug !), if I short out the wires the reversing lights work (one anyway). Not found the switch yet. Also on turning on the ignition a tone sounds for a couple of seconds, is this the sensors ? However on removing the link the sound still operates having not worked before. My guess is I have to remove the battery to access the switch, are there any problems in doing this with the on board electronics etc. Not got around the the sensors yet its one step at a time.
I should add that I was an electrical engineer in my working days.

Hi Rich, you need to post this in the X-Type section - but nonetheless I can answer this for you as my X-Type came to me with a non working reversing switch.. if you stand in front of the engine and look to the right hand side of the engine bay - roughly in line with the front shocks you will see a round sensor screwed vertically down into the transmission - it is quite easy to change - and you don't need a genuine jaguar bit - most car factors carry it for about £6 or £7.. see the thread here : https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...location-5128/

The 'missing ' connection is on the top of the transmission, just under the battery; the G-B wire connects to the reverse switch in the trans, there is just a single spade lug that the connector attaches to.

I have had a similar problem with the reversing lights on my 2003 car. Having got the switch out it tested open circuit even with the "ball bearing" pushed in. So I held the switch in a vice and, pushing in the ball with a screwdriver, squirted in a good shot of contact cleaner, not wd40.The result, a perfectly working switch.
