Default Right channel out on stereo... Amp or radio?

I was going to try and diagnose this myself. The right channel is out on the radio and cd player. '02 X-Type... No navigation.

Is there an amp or, would it just be the radio itself? If the amp is a possibility where is it located?

Thanks for any help!

Marco.

Marco, the amp is located inside the radio. So, if your right side is not playing, then you will need to replace the radio. Granted, before you replace the radio, I would get your hands on a good speaker and check to make sure that the speakers are not blown on that side. Radio problems are few and far between where speaker issues are much more common.

you would have to use a volt meter and tap into the positive and negative of each channel, or in simple terms, each speaker wire, if your not getting any power than the channel is blown, if you get power than the speaker is either not connected properly or the speaker is blown.

Thanks for the advice! I would think the chances are slim that both speakers are blown on that side but, you are right, I should check that first... I will. Keep ya posted...

I bought my 2002 X Type and all 4 door speakers were dead. I had them replaced with Panasonic units and the sound is spectacular.
It's a common thing with X-Types to have speakers die.

This is an interesting thread as I am experiencing all speakers dead except for the pax side rear. I read flyrr100's comment about the speakers being trouble and I found full current coming to the speakers in the pax side front. Now I am in search for new speakers to see if my measurements are correct. Thank you for placing this valuable information on the site as it may have saved me buying a new radio.

Yes, I had to have 3 speakers replace (under warranty... ;-) last year. The problem as I understand it is that the glue that holds the magnet to the speaker cone weakens over time. Then the magnet "falls" off the cone.
