Shift RPM's
At what RPM do you normally shift gears. I seem to shift at about 3,000 RPM and I think that might be too high.

RE: Shift RPM's
it depends how hard you are on the gas. I shift at around 2.5-3.

RE: Shift RPM's
Not too high as long as you hit the red line each time . BTW, the car is gasoline right ? If it's diesel then things are different .

RE: Shift RPM's
kinda a strange question. I mean shift at the appropriate speed for the acceleration rate you want. redline is there for a reason.. anything below it is not going to harm the engine.
There is also passenger comfort to consider, and lower rpm shifts are generally smoother. Keep in mind that 99% of any damage to engine or transmission will be from trying to shift quickly. Take your time changing gears... dont try to do it in less than a full second.. (count one mississippi). If you do a 0-60 you only have to shift twice, an automatic takes about3 tenthsof a second (300ms) to shift, the best SMG take under 200 ms so if you take a full second, you only take 700ms per shift longer. that would be 1.4 seconds on a 0-60. That is not ever going to be a problem,, unless you are racing. Just take it easy shifting and enjoy the engine.. it can rev happily to whatever you like. |
RE: Shift RPM's
2000 rpm typically. Gets the job done and gives better mileage. When i get in the "mood" its 3-4-5-6.5K rpm. That doesnt happen to often. The 3K shifts arent hurting anything considering that these cars run 3K RPMat 75MpH
