Smoking diesel 2.0
 

Hi All

I have a 2004 X-Type 2.0d, with 166,000 on the clock, it drives ok, but has started smoking all the time, light smoke when driving normally and sometimes a slight missfire, a little black smoke when accelerating sometimes or when on a gradient.
The diagnostic plug in at the garage has said twice that there is nothing wrong, the smoking stops if I add fuel cleaner to the tank when I fill up.
Anyone had this or have any ideas?

Smoking is first condition, next is usually blinking glow plug.

Thank you, that hasn't started yet, but I will look out for it, would a faulty glow plug show up on a diagnostic check do you think?
