Son number 3 joins the X type club

Jamie has been looking at / thinking of trading up into something a little better recently, and I managed to convince him of the joys of X type Jaguar ownership.
A beautiful, lovingly maintained example came up from a forum member, Maureensxtype and we jumped at it, made the call and took details, looked at some pics and listened carefully and were 99% at that point subject to seeing the car / paperwork and a test drive.

I had a business trip that I could incorporate it into so....
I left Glasgow at around 01.30am on the Wednesday and travelled to London and saw my customer, had an hour or so there, leaving at around 11am, then headed up to Cannock to see Roger and the X Type, left there around 5.30pm or so heading home and arrived at around 10.30pm or so covering 888 miles.........a longgggggg day on the road, even in my XJ!

Roger and his wife were lovely people, the car was exactly as stated, a beautiful example and one we were glad to buy, a really good , smooth transaction all round I think
The car is a 2007 X type 2.2d SE in Chilli red with champagne leather interior and has covered only 23500 miles, a gorgeous example.

Although the car is serviced to within an inch of its life and looks great, a clean example, we want to put our own stamp on it, so.........

There'll be an oil change in a few days, the air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter will all be done too, she'll be cleaned, washed n dried completely inside n out and a certain few parts added here n there. Today, the wheels were off and cleaned inside n out, wheel wells cleaned and blackened and hubs / calipers painted ( hubs silver and calipers black )
I have new wheel bolts on order, new centre caps and tyre valve caps too, new wiper blades coming soon and then she's going in to get the rear windows tinted a medium smoke. Although the interior is about immaculate as you can expect, we'll give it a quick once over and condition the leather, new number plates ordered too.
There's loads more, but you get the idea and Jamie actually loves the car, quite likes the wood and chrome bumper blades and may leave them as is.

I'll try to be more specific, include a listing of what was / is being done and include before and after pics of an already beautiful X type that we hope to try and improve on and run for the next 3 years or so.

Jim that sounds like a long but very good day!

It is kinda funny how you buy a car that needs nothing and you put $1000 into it to make it yours. I am doing the same thing to my new X-cat. : )

Ok so we've managed to get a handle on where we're at with the car now.
I just want to start by saying it's a lovely example, serviced to death, lots of stamps, serviced every year regardless of only covering 2k-3k miles per year.
Alloys still in good shape, tyres still ok for now ( probably 6 months or so left, all original Pirelli's )
The interior is about as immaculate as you could expect for year and mileage, we'll clean it up and condition it regardless. Even though its only recently been serviced, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and oil change will be done too.

Here's some before pics.....

Somehow, the closeup pics probably manage to make it look worse than it actually is, all just cosmetic and easily dealt with.
As good a car as she is and although she's been well serviced and looked after, we'll be putting our own stamp on it
Parts on order........

2 sets of standard wheel bolts ( all old bolts and locking wheel nuts to be binned £40
air filter changed £8.50
pollen filter changed £8.49
2 sets of new wheel centre caps in black £25.00
2 sets tyre valve caps £7.00
wiper blades £10.95
engine oil / filter change £40.00
new car mats £13.00
new licence plates £27.00
leapers x 2 for engine cover £5.00
rear window tints £80.00

The engine cover will look something like this when completed

We'll probably carry over the wheel centre cap mod to the top of the shock tower too to tidy up the bay a little, more to follow as it happens over the next few days / weeks

Hi George, yes the last one has came into the fold....lol
Abeit in a red version, nice though

Please see below pic of the wheel centre cap mod we made on top of the shock towers. The engine bay still needs a little work but you get the idea?
Attachment 153424

Simply a wheel centre cap with lugs ground off and underside flattened, then attached using clear silicone, a nice little touch I though and not too OTT
Here's a slightly better one of the engine cover with JAGUAR hand painted in Red. We've also added a leaper ( I left mine chrome ) but Peter has painted his red to match.......looks good I think

Love the Jag in red! Some red wheel center caps are in order!

JimC64 10-21-2015 06:38 PM

thanks George, we went with black and also black calipers too, as a contrast, felt it would work better.
Need to get the rest done so she's good to go, but not doing the work, just waiting on Jamie to do some of the work as it is his car after all. Unfortunately he's doing long shifts at the moment, so may not be ready for her photo shoot for another few days / week or so.

Well, got a little more done today........

As you know, the locking wheel nuts were binned, well today all old style Jaguar wheel nuts removed and replaced with fresh chromed single piece versions. There should be no issues with them from now on and just that simple thing lefts the wheels just another little bit.

New reg plates added front n rear complete with GB Scotland logos either side of course.
Stratstone logo removed from rear window.
Going to add a leaper to the engine cover, as you may know we hand painted the JAGUAR lettering red, so the chrome leaper has been done to match

Attachment 153415

Not much left to do now, tint the rear windows and order a new front windscreen to replace the damaged one, should be just about job done, then we can add pics

Well, looks like he's getting personal plates to add to the Jag now.....

X14 JSC should look good
hopefully arrive in a week or two, then sort out the paperwork and get it added, nice touch

hlgeorge 10-28-2015 05:05 PM

That is the best looking X-Type I have seen. And it is loaded with all the options!!

JimC64 10-28-2015 07:31 PM

Thanks George, he's really kinda loving the Jag right now, a real convert after refusing for the last year or two he's finally seen the light.
He now fully appreciates the subtle ( and sometimes not so subtle ) differences that in his previous ride.

Getting lots of compliments too, in fact mostly compliments from all quarters with the usual odd "Ford " comment, or old mans car which he's been more than able to laugh off

JimC64 11-02-2015 06:55 PM

Got his private plate X14 JSC on the car today, really helps to make her stand out even more, he's well chuffed
I'll add pics if / when I get them

ssshield 11-02-2015 10:23 PM

Clean X-type. Really loved my '01. Great cars. Rolling the wife's S-type now. Enjoy!
