Default Standard tape player to double din touch screen??

Evening all,

juzt wanted to know how much of a nightmare is it to change the standard stereo for an after market double din touchscreen one. I have a 51 plate 3.0L V6 with disc player in boot. The car has no climate control and just a standard tape player on dash. Any help would be appreciated.

Lewis, it is not hard, the big thing is to look around the forums as you are somewhat limited in depth. There will also be references to the kit that will be needed to dress things up to fill the gap between the radio and the center console. I want to say the one you want is made by Delphi. There will be links here for the correct kit.

Wiring wise, just like any other radio. where people normally run into issues is they attempt to do something with the NAV unit. That is a complete different monster which you don't need to worry about.

Get all the options that you can. It will be worth it. I loved my Pioneer I had in my T-bird. Had pretty much eveyrthing for the time, including karaoke.

Nice one Thermo, I will have look at some of the other threads and get more info. I will attach photos of The one I was looking at, it’s got a shallow back but can do a lot more then the crap that’s in there now. Don’t judge me as I’m not the richest person. See what you think mate.

Thank you Dennis, I wish I had your skill set mate. The aftermarket one I’m looking at (pics above) seems to be able to have a lot more functions then the Jag Nav. I guess a lot of the wiring will be pretty similar but I’m just 50/50 with the decision to keep it Jag standard. I’ve just had my hip replaced so this is the best pic off my setup now. I really do appreciate your help. Thank you

That looks amazing if you have any idea on how to do that ( which I don’t) I was confused about 10 seconds in lol. so I’m probably gunna look at the after market ones as it’s mostly plug and play..
Thanks to everyone for the comments

Lewis, that radio will be definitely shallow enough for the X-Type. I want to say the depth is fine until you start hitting like 6" into the dash. That would appear to only be but maybe 2 inches. the big question that I see (haven't looked at all the specs) is whether it has a separate processing module. If it is only what you picture, then you are golden. If there is a separate processing module, that may make the install a bit more difficult since you will also need to figure out where to put the processing module.

Something else I would research is whether it uses a proprietary camera or if you can use other styles (again, haven't read through all the literature on the radio). The camera that they show is not going to be easy to hide. if you can use another style camera, that may be advantageous since you will be able to hide it better and not look so out of place.
