Stripped Oil Pan Plug

The bolt for draining the oil pan is stripped, is this a universal plug, or do I need to special order the part... and what would the exact name be?

In this instance Jaguar don't have a weird name for the Drain Plug!

See item 5 - Part Number XR820128.

Other than being magnetic, it appears from the drawing to be a shouldered hexagon bolt. Although you could probably find an equivalent thread and length bolt, you certainly don't want to risk compromising the oil pan threads.

If the pan threads are shot, too, your local NAPA store has a couple of different type of kits to repair or replace the plug.

And stay away from the Quickie-type Lube shops. The grease monkeys down in the pit are famous for stripping those threads AND screwing the oil filter on so tight that you have to chisel them off.

(Most of those guys seem to understand the "Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey" concept, but unless they have an "R" and an "L" written on their gloves, well...)

Good Luck!
