Stuttering when accelerating

Initially with lower gears, the car does being to stutter when you press your foot down to accelerate, but in this case I'm not driving the car at a low RPM (I drive a 5 speed). I just noticed today because normally I don't have a heavy foot, but when I gave it some gas it began to stutter/choke a little. Now, the check engine light is on due to an o2 sensor being out.. could that be it? Or maybe the spark plug wires are shot? I had the spark plugs replaced a few months ago, along side the air and fuel filter. Everything has been maintained properly - just hope this isn't a serious issue.

Thanks guys.

Hi Fezz,

I don't think your car has spark plug wires. I believe it has an ignition coil on each plug and they are a common failure. How do you know know the MIL is on due to the O2 sensor. What codes are stored?

Hey there, good advice on getting the codes read for sure, it'll help to narrow things down some.

An 02 sensor being faulty can cause either rich / lean conditions I believe so could certainly be part of your problem.
Don't know about your mileage but assuming its got a few miles on it the throttle body may need a clean........could be all coked up which won't help either.

Is the throttle body difficult to clean out? And yeah I have 186,000km on the vehicle.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Hi Fezz,
had a similar problem on my 200 XKR, to cut a long story short check that there are no air leaks in the induction ducting , mine had a leaky seal on the throttle body to the ducting that goes to the MAF, it took ages to find the problem but once sorted totally different car,
good luck

Fuel filter needs changing ?
If you go WOT (kickdown) the ECM goes open loop, the O2 sensors are ignored, so if you get hesitation on WOT it isn't the problem.
As everyone says 'get the codes'
You'll find instructions on TB throttle cleaning with a quick search.
Easy provided you don't break anything and put it back together without any leaks.
