Default Think I’ve been scammed

Hey guys, got a question for you all.

I have a 2002 xtype and the ECM failed so I get on the net and search out an ECM repair facility and “module experts came up, after some research I decided to contact them, made the agreement with Mark Davidson (salesman) to send in the ECM, two weeks go by and Mark contacts me and said the ECM is fried and I need a new one so I give him the go ahead to get one and program it to match my VIN , two more weeks go by and he contacted me saying I need to send in my cluster to get the final programming done (I’m getting a little angry now) so any way I send them my cluster and 9 days go by and mark asked why I didn’t send my key with it,( I said you never asked for it) he said he did and that sometimes people only hear what they want to hear (now I’m pissed) so last Thursday night I get on the net and search “module experts complaints” and oh boy, the things I found. (See attachment)
Tell me what y’all think and the actions I need to take.

the ecu and dash cluster are part of the security system and along with the key fob transducer need to be programed together. the fob part of the keys is programed to the GEM unit for locking and unlocking.

recoding the setup will take around 30 mins using the sdd software .

Default I Went Only Partially Down That Rabbit Hole

Mi,

I feel your pain, just not as bad....

I spent a great deal of time searching the web for someone who could repair my ECU or replace it with like-for-like, so that I did not have to get it reprogrammed. I am in a location that has one shop who will reluctantly reprogram a replacement ECU, but they want to charge me a full days labor at around $150/hr.

I found Module Experts during my search for a solution to my failing ECU. I was a bit hesitant to do business with them, since there is a significant incentive for them to find the original ECU "beyond repair." Specifically, if they can repair your ECU the price is around $300 - if they provide you a remanufactured one the price jumps to $700. I would guess that more modules are "Fried" than repaired. But I could be wrong.....

Anyway, I decided to take the risk and Module Experts currently have my ECU, which I sent last week. My rep called me on Friday and informed me that my ECU was "Fried" and that they could provide me a remanf one, but that I would need to have it reprogrammed when I got it back. If you read their webpage, they make it appear that they could provide a reprogrammed replacement unit, without all the tear the dash out and send it to them - along with the Key Transponder.

I told my rep that the ONLY reason I chose them was the fact that the website led me to believe that they could provide a reprogrammed remanf, if my ECU was irreparable. My rep stated that they could "Reprogram the remanf for no charge, if I send them the instrument cluster and key." This factoid is not eluded to anywhere on their website and I was not a happy dude...

The end result, is that I told Module Experts to package the ECU back up and return it to me. It will cost me $99 for the troubleshooting and $15 or so for return shipping, but I did not fully go down the rabbit hole.

So now I have a search out for a replacement ECU, instrument cluster and key transponder from the same donor vehicle. This will eliminate the need to reprogram the ECU, since all of the 'critical' components will be from the same vehicle. There is a pretty good YouTube video on how to replace these three components. I will have to swap out transponders in my key fob, may have to reset the odometer to my actual mileage and I will definitely take it in to have it checked to ensure the replacement ECU is doing its job.

I have several feelers out on E-Bay and hopefully one of them will respond favorably.
