Default Transfer case

Can anyone tell me how I can find out which type of transfer case is on my X-Type: viscous or non viscous?

P.S. I do not have DSC and the car is not a 2004.5

Thanks.

The way that actually tells you is to jack up the front and back on one side of the car. Put the car in gear and handbrake off. Turn one free wheel and the other will turn in opposite direction. If it turns freely then no viscous and if there is resistance then viscous. You probably don't have viscous in 2004.

Thanks for your help, but is there a simpler way to tell?

Send your VIN to Jaguar and ask? Assuming yours still has its original transfer case, that is.

X2004, if I remember right, the 02-03 (and early 04) transfer cases have a bulbous tail where the output shaft for the rear axle is vice having a much narrower tail shaft in the same spot for the 2004.25 and newer vehicles. It seems to me that there is also a difference in the spacing where the drain hole is between the earlier and later style transfer cases.

This picture is of an 03 transfer case. The 04+ as I recall have a bit more open hole there for you to work in.
