Updating steering wheel

1 Attachment(s)
I want to update my 04 X type steering wheel to the better looking new style, does anyone know will the newer style fit?

Matt, yes it does fit. Other members have done it. The plugs are the same, but you have to replace the whole steering wheel. So, make sure you get the airbag too.

What year is that wheel? That looks SO much better!

That's part of the mid-2004 update, though you might've gotten it a bit later than that in the US.

Just keep in mind that in two-tone interiors (meaning all but full black) the steering wheel and the top of the dashboard are the same colour, so you should make sure your new steering wheel trim matches the old one, or it'll clash with the dash.
The issue with this is that when they did the update, they dropped some of the early trim colours available and introduced some new ones. Of course, you could have the steering wheel and the airbag re-trimmed in matching leather, as long as the airbag is done properly as it's normally not leather-trimmed at all. Needs to have breaking stitches at proper spots.

EDIT:
Bunch of Jaguar trim colours:

I think i got it from a 06 Jag

The darker wheel is a better match to that interior (same color as mine) than the existing factory wheel is. The wheel/airbag in my current car are at least a half-tone different from the existing trim, and the design screams "Pinto!", not "Jaguar".

The original wheel really is a weak spot, and apparently, Jaguar thought so, too, or they wouldn't have changed it!

I actually prefer the earlier steering wheel, partly because of the button placement but mostly because of the looks. Especially the lower two spokes on the later wheels look too spindly to me.

However, while the early wheel works in black or dark grey, those light-brown mocha oyster -sort colours work much better in the later wheel. The early wheel looks weirdly cheap in light brown, maybe it's because the airbag cover is so big and flat, black/grey hide the plastic look better.

My interior is ADX, the top of the dash and the steering wheel are ADY.

New airbag got here yesterday, looked a little darker that I expected, wheel got here today, dead match for the bag, and both match the dash better than the wheel in the car now.

We have to run my young guy down to the hospital in Hershey for an IViG infusion, headed down Thursday, hopefully back on Saturday...probably too late in the day to finish up the last wheel's brakes...so I think I know what I'll be doing Saturday evening!

It is a dead match for the one in the picture in post 1.

By the way, wheel transplant went well, except for the cruise control controls. That required some sleight of hand and a bit of dremel tool and surface mount electronics surgery. You CAN make the updated controls work with the 2001-2003 electronics, but it takes a little work.
