Could be a bad bearing. Does it make a wooh wooh wooh sound and then quite off a bit the faster you go?
Heather, what I want you to try is to take the car out for a drive and listen for the hum to start. Once the hum is happening and traffic conditions allow, move the steering wheel side to side to move the car at a decent rate (yet under control) side to side. When you turn 1 way does the noise continue but when you go the other way, the noise stops. If this is the case, odds are you have a bad bearing. You may also find that in a little bit, you will get an ABS warning light to come on. The ABS sensor is right in that same area and if things get bad enough, it will cause the sensor to loose sight of the other half of the sensor.
