Who has installed a single din deck?
Hello everyone,
I really need to upgrade the driving experience in my X. This car is my daily driver and I really would like a new head unit that has handsfree, BT and sirius xm.
I have installed this Alpine head in my other cars
Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.
Along with mini amp that piggy-backs of the head unit. Of course that unit looks more appropriate in my older cars, but it has everything I need and want. The only reason I was considering a double din in the X was because it would look nicer in the car, but I don't care for navigation in my cars and I have read about it being hit or miss with the fit of those larger units.
So for those that have installed a single din unit:
1-Will I be able to install the HU linked above with something like this:
http://bit.ly/Y35hU5 it says that it includes a wiring harness. Will it work?
2-what kit should I use to keep the steering wheel functions
3-Is there also a fit issue with a single din like with a double?
Thanks all

Stuart, thanks. They are original. I think the chrome looks great with the BRG colour.
I should have added to my original post, if anyone knows of a economical way to add bluetooth and Sirius xm please let me know. I won't buy a 400 jaguar ACM and I also don't want to add a bunch of additional artifacts to my dash .
Thanks !!

The dash install you linked claims to work, and I have no idea one way or the other if it does. But for $49 you can get a kit cheaper through Crutchfield -
Car Selector
I've purchased over a dozen HUs over the years through Crutchfield, and while they're not always the cheapest on components they've always come through with correct mounting hardware and harnesses. Their customer service is top notch too.
They also sell a harness for using your steering wheel controls - Axxess ASWC-1 Steering wheel control interface — connects your car's steering wheel audio controls to an aftermarket stereo at Crutchfield.com
Not sure about fit issue with a single DIN, but I've seen a lot of pics around these forums with people who have done exactly that.
Best of luck.

I am a fan of Alpine and I have a double DIN Alpine ICS-X7HD in mine right now.

I too am a big Alpine fan. Their HU's last forever and are very well made. I looked up the your head unit and I really like it. Did you get it from Crutchfield with the free kit and install it yourself? Any fit problems for you on installation?
Thanks !
