Would my engine light come on, if I fill up with lower octane fuel then recommended?

Exclamation Would my engine light come on, if I fill up with lower octane fuel then recommended?
Ok, could it be that my engine light keeps comin on if I fuel up with 87-octane instead of 93-octane (that is whats recommended)???

I do it all the time. Never have I gotten a check engine light or even a ping.

I prefer the higher octane but sometimes when it's sitting at 1.35 per liter.....

^^^ Yeah what Brutal said.

If you get spark knock, the computer will retard the timing ... that's all. If you have a code, you've got another, probably unrelated problem.

Ditto with Brutal....are you filling your tank past the first shutoff at the pump? Overfilling your gas tank will throw a CEL.
