Default Would you take this X type on a 6 hour trip?

Hi Gents-

i am thinking about taking my X type on a 6 hour trip in a month but I am not too certain I want to do that. I am sure to some this is laughable, but all my cars are driven short distances. I literally make trips less than a mile most of the time because everything is so close. Sometimes I end up driving 10 miles to places I don’t need to go just to get the cars fully warmed and running.

Anyway-

My X type has some issues right now that I have not addressed:

1- my fuel pump seemed like it was going to go out right when it started getting hot, maybe a couple of months ago. I bought a new pump, but the problem never came back. I have never let the fuel level drop below 1/4 again.

2-The Coolant reservoir is a new Jaguar part, the entire thermostat hose is a new Jaguar part, the hose from the reservoir is a new Jaguar part—but the water pump is weeping very, very lightly.

3-The dreaded oil pan leak- this is not something I have determined how to solve yet, but I think it should not pose a problem.

Car has 69k miles.

Would you take it on a 6 hr trip as is?

thanks

Spike, I would in a heartbeat. If you need some assurance, find a park or some toy store (car parts, gun store, etc) that is say 60 miles away. Drive there, drive back. The car makes that trip, then you should definitely be golden for the trip you are looking at.

Absolutely I would!

I would take a gallon of coolant, a good fire extinguisher, and a basic toolkit (screwdrivers, socket set, and wrenches).. just in case..

Though not a necessity; per my "Road Trip Report"; A spare X-Type is also handy to have too

Where y' all headed to Spike?

He's going to DisneyWorld!! :-) :-) :-)

When I bought mine, I drove it home 2,200 miles in 35 straight through hours. It ran like a CAT!

On my previous X type is what as easy as calling roadside to get the car towed to a shop....

all the bolts broke on me that time. That is the only reason I have been scared to jump on this

Well, I think I have made up my mind to take the car.

I think the thing that was bothering me the most Was that fuel pump that has not gotten replaced, as it has not shown any symptoms of failure since the one incident now a few months ago. I will take the new pump with me just in case.

Why not just replace the fuel pump before your trip? You KNOW it will be in the back of your mind the whole time. Eventually it will need to get done, so why not get it out of the way, if for only the peace of mind it will bring? Plus, in the event it would fail on yor trip, there is no guarantee there would be a local shop that would allow you to supply the parts yourself.

Thank for your reply-

main reason is, the car has never displayed the same failure mode again. I would hate to replace it now, a couple of weeks before, and create a problem by doing so.
