WTF is this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JAGUA...QQcmdZViewItem

And how can it possibly do anything? $35 won't even buy a tank of gas let alone a performance upgrade. So what do you think it REALLY does besides drain your wallet?[:@]

RE: WTF is this?

It's a chip that tells your computer that the air entering the intake is at an optimal 52 degrees farenheit. It does help a little with performance, and it does save you gas, but it also deprives your engine of much needed gas in other conditions where it would optimally get it, and it will also cause you to run dry a bit. Gas apart from igniting, also lubricates your cylinder walls.

Ok, I can see the intent, but if all it's doing is leaning the fuel trim based on a false temp. reading, what's it gonna' do for me here in Michigan? Today? It was 18 degrees whenI started my car this a.m.! With a leaned outshot of fuel, I'll bet it would have run like crap!

It's quite beneficial here in Miami at 90 degrees, but it's very bad for the engine.

RE: WTF is this?

Thesethings were queried at an X type seminar hosted by Jaguar I went to at their Castle Bromwich seminar last January.According to the Jag expert there are many other safetyprecautions that are built into theJag engine sensors and ECU.
Altering the temp input with these mods wont give extra HP as other sensors pick up on this and IIR stop the timing being altered to stop possible detrimentaleffect on the engine.
If they really worked wouldnt you think they would be approved?

all those chips on ebay are crap. It looks like a black zippo lighter with a .2cent piece of copper wire hanging out of it. Save your money and get a professional tune if you want one.

In reply to Bigdreams05 (Post #1),

....and the final point you make can lead to 'fuel wash', a condition caused by unburnt fuel remaining on the cylinder walls between strokes. This results in wear to the piston rings, the edges of which, when viewed in cross-section,appear 'pointed' rather than 'flat'. Oil then enters the piston chambers on the compression stroke and escapes on the exhaust stroke to appear as blue smoke from the tail pipe. Typically, thisoccurs when the air/fuel mixture is incorrect and can even stem from the wrong air filter beingfitted and will present itself within a few thousand miles....
