X Type Factory Upgraded Headlights?

I have a 2007 Jaguar x type 3.0. It currently has the factory halogen bulbs. I am aware that these cars came from the factory with an HID upgrade option available. My question is, are the factory lenses/housings suitable to swap from halogen to HID since it was offered as a factory option?

Do I need to change any fuses or add any ballasts or harnesses or is it just a drop in replacement to go from halogen to HID?

Not drop in. You need to buy HID kits.

Do a SEARCH in this forum, there are plenty of discussions on types, installation, etc.

Evan, if you have any questions, let me know. I have converted a few cars over.

Thermo. Can you recommend or send a link to an HID kit that you recommend please ? Thx.

NYC, if you can find them, go with MaxLux. this company is the OEM for most of the HID cars out there. Yes, they cost a little more (about 50% more), but I put a pair in and they lasted for many years where the other kits that I have put in seemed to last about a year or so before I started having issues. I installed the 2 kits the same way. The cheaper kits seemed to have ballast issues. So, if you can find even the MaxLux ballasts, then you can get a matching set of bulbs (there are 2 styles of connectors out there, so, pay attention).

X-type halogen and xenon headlights are almost the same except two things - Halogens have 1 ground for the main beam and Xenons have two grounds. In order for you to run Xenons the headlights must be slightly modified inside, otherwise they won't start. Inside the headlights both grounds should be connected. The second difference is the electric leveling motors - on the halogen they are operated from the cabin and the Xenons are automatic(cars with factory HIDs don't have a level switch). If you swap Xenons you will loose the electric leveling system and you'll remain only with manual adjusting trough the gear cogs. If you have more questions about the headlights ask me, I'm repairing and restoring them since 2015.
